The initial GMC Envoy model was packed with all modern equipments that you find in the present gen. Denali. The new features, however, could not mask the old-tech V6 and aged chassis, resulting in a lackluster acceleration and mushy ride quality at high speeds.

First Generation (1998-2000)

The first generation GMC Envoy was traded during the period 1998-2000. It was an improved version of the midsize GMC Jimmy that was introduced in 1995. There were many other downsides including poor brake feel, a large turning radius, and numb steering. However, these old GMC Envoys were not too high in terms of pricing. Amongst the medium sized trucks, the GMC Enjoy was one of the top-selling models in the market.

Second Generation (2002—Present)

It was entirely modified for 2002 and the key modifications were additional refinement and power, as well as increase in size. With these modifications, 2002 GMC Envoy became a really competitive model, and it gave healthy competition to most of its rivals.

The second gen. GMC Envoy was developed in on the Chevy Trail-Blazer design platform. It had a standard body style and was built as a body-on-frame SUV. It was provided either in four-wheel-drive (4WD) and two-wheel-drive (2WD) configurations. With the exception of styling, there were number of differences among the two.

The GMC Envoy produced as a SUV that can accommodate five passengers. Along with the standard SLT and SLE trim levels, a top-lined trim also included known as Denali trim. The latest generation GMC Envoy is incorporated with all performance and comfort amenities to compete with its rivals.

The SLE trim offers sufficient features to meet customer’s needs including

• a CD stereo,
• dual-zone air-conditioning,
• 17-inch alloy wheels, and
• a trailer hitch.

Both the SLT and Denali trims get a Bose sound system and leather upholstery. Along with its styling characteristics, the Envoy Denali is equipped with

• a muscular V8 engine,
• Additional sound insulation, and
• improved leather upholstery.

On all the GMC Envoys, a rear entertainment system is mounted centrally for the entertainment of passengers. Even though the safety equipments are up to date, it received very low scores in crash tests.

The SLE trim level is included with a 4.2-liter inline-6-cylinder engine for the generation of 291-horsepower, whereas the top-lined trims – the Denali and SLT are using a 5.3-liter V8 engine that can evolve 302-hp. The key dissimilarity between these two engines is power and additional torque. The V8 engine also gets a cylinder-deactivation feature.

GMC envoy Interiors

Despite the fact that the present generation GMC Envoy is quite roomy, seating comfort is not that great. It can provide sufficient amount of space for luggage of four members and 80 cubic feet of cargo capacity. However, many of the customers are seeking the extra third row seat; hopefully, we should see that on the 2011-2012 GMC Envoy!
